Apple Of My Eye

Over the years I have used several different types of ladders as bookshelves and plant stands in my home.  Since I moved into my current home all of my ladders have been relegated to a corner of the garage.  The rooms in my house are pretty small and ladders (open ones at least) take up a considerable amount of space.

Last spring during a trip to a local farmers market I came across several antique vendors that had some pretty darn charming junk.  I always love it when I come across things I have never seen before, or are a little different than the ordinary style or type of that item.  This particular day I was introduced to the APPLE LADDER - or orchard ladder - and decided that I "needed" one for myself.  I wanted to adapt it to use for a bedside table in my bedroom.  I thought it would look really cool next to my bed.  So I bought it.

Well, these suckers are bigger than they look! I had to go home and get a larger vehicle to bring it home in.  And (insert my sinking heart here) it was way too big to use where I wanted to.  I tried it several different places and ended up putting it in the only place where it would fit.  I like, but I don't love it, and I'm hoping someday I will have a vision for its purpose in my home that will send it into "I LOVE THIS THING" territory.

huge huh?

A berry basket.  Do you think it's ok to mix my produce items?

I think I want to paint it white or do a whitewash....any opinions out there????  Usually I'm stubborn about my visions, but in this case I could use a little help...

Make something wonderful today!

I reeaaaally like the ladder too. And, most of the time, I would vote for paint. But, I also really like it the way it is.....rustic. Hopefully you'll find that PERFECT place someday soon, but until then it's lookin' pretty darn good right there.
