Dear Daughter, I'm sorry I broke your bed.

Remember the frog I was turning into a princess? You see there was this unfortunate series of events....

I painted your headboard to perfection.  Waxed it with clear and dark wax.

I even used my OLD waxes (the ones I used before I bought my new special waxes this week) so it would match your dresser that I painted for you perfectly with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Arles.

And it did.  Match perfectly.  In my memory.  Since you live 1100 miles away I had to use my memory.

Not even the flood of water that poured into the basement last night when I overflowed the bathtub could make it not be perfect.

Today I pondered how I could get it dressed up for pictures, so I could take it (her) to Miss Mustard Seed's party tonight.  Then we were going to party through the weekend - maybe a Funky Junk party on Saturday, stop in at the DIY Show-off for a night-cap and then finish up on the porch for Metamorphosis Monday.  It was going to be a big weekend.

But a funny thing happens when your bathtub overflows and you have to mop the basement tile.  It gets really clean.  Slippery clean. So when I scooted around the corner in my sock feet during a work-out break to put in the last load of clothes that had to be washed because the big spill was heaviest around the laundry shoot and large pile of laundry got soaked and then tried to scoot around the corner back to my little home gym area (come up for air here) I slid sideways onto my well toned a**.  Right into third base.  Right into your headboard, and the wall behind it.

Somehow I managed to fit my 5'7" body into a 3'6" space.  The headboard however does not fit in a 3'6" space.  When it falls over and crashes down on my sprawling body, it hits the cabinet across from it and breaks its crown.   Literally.  Sigh.

It's fixable.  I just need to get a new bottle of wood glue.  I'll have her glued and clamped before you know it.  I'll probably still take her out to party.  If she doesn't fuss too much about not being able to wear her party dress.  Now we can also party at Alphabet Thursday.  This week's letter is U - for unfortunate - in my case.

And my a**?  I didn't have any problem locating the rather large bruise - I've got that huge mirror in my shower you know.

It isn't pretty.  Maybe I will have to hang a towel over it (the mirror, not me) for a week or so.

So now dear daughter, when you climb into bed at night and see the rather large crack front and center on your headboard you can know how much I love you - that I took a grenade for you.

Yep. I did that.  Unfortunately.

Ya'll have a great weekend and

Make something wonderful today!

Ooooohhhh, bummer! What a story to go along with that crack though! I am sure your daughter will forgive you! I hope you'll post again once you've got this beauty all patched up and looking pretty again!
Best Wishes and Blessings,
Amanda

Love the headboard, but even more than that I love the story that goes with it. You managed to capture tragic, and funny all in the same story...good job!

Oh yikes!
What a pretty headboard. How fortunate that you can fix it!
And your a** will mend in time, too.
Thank goodness!

OMG...you're lucky you didn't break something on you! The headboard can be fixed a lot faster then you can heal. I loved the way you wrote this post...you had me chuckling along. By the way, it's going to be a beautiful set.

What a freak chain of events - in retrospect, it is baffling how one thing leads to another - like a string of dominoes...

Good to know you were not injured more seriously.
