I've been challenged to identify and show you my favorite room in my home. I don't really play favorites, but if I go by sheer usefulness I would have to pick the Living Room. This is the room where I spend 50% of my waking hours. If I'm working on a project it is less. If I'm blogging - working on posts, editing pictures, reading, commenting - it is more. It is the room where the many of my favorite "things" live.
It is where my dirty little secrets are kept (well sorta - I also have magazines in the closets, the office, the basement, the bedroom).
It is where I say good morning to the kids.
Where memories from vacations hang out...
Where great recipes are studied...craft supplies lie in wait....and necklaces don't get put away.
Where gifts, art fair treasures, and my daughter's art hang together...
Where mud cloths from estate sales of women who sell everything at age 60 and join the Peace Corp hang out...
Where an almost exact replica of our cat sits in the window (this may be the closest you will ever come to a picture of our camera shy cat)....
Where my first and favorite decoupage furniture lives...
It is the first room you see when you come in the front door...
And (unfortunately) is the hallway to the rest of the house...
It is where my red couch no longer sits because it made my old body hurt - and I am living with this substitute couch for the undetermined future.
It is where I visit with my television friends...
It is my office... (I have a desk in the garage, waiting to be painted)
and it is where I get to stare at my favorite vignette in the house...
Everything in this room holds a memory and has a story. Except for the television and some of the art everything is 2nd or 10th hand or made by me. I like that. I like this room.
IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL.
Make something wonderful today!

What a fabulous idea to use the corbels in the window. Never would have thought of it myself. You are quite the decoupager too. I love that portrait. You have a very cozy, welcoming home with a great eclectic style. That is what makes a house a home!
Was hoping to hear you comment on the It is Well...
Yes, so thankful it is!
Precious memories, precious home. So glad you shared. I like it too!
Those are the first things I noticed too - the great corbels in the window, lovley idea. Also love your Klimt chest - the whole space is so cosy and inviting Karen, thanks for sharing.
A cosy and well loved room, with great artistic and personal touches. Just lovely Karen x
You have such a wonderful eclectic vibe going on in this room! At least your furniture is NOT sitting in 'waiting room fashion' against the walls. I also love the 'it is well...' sign. Which I think I've seen before-when I first visited your blog. As to a comfy couch...I can relate.
So...I love your living room, the most used room in your home; a well padded nest!
...like you I keep my magazines,Pat
love the art,the family and the treasures....all the things that make a family feel ....like I am home....I sure would feel comfortable....thank you
Great post! You are so clever and I can see why this is your most-used room. Very practical and pleasing, comfy and intriguing!

Thanks for sharing it with us!

Your post made me think. I've been feeling like everything is a mess and I spend so much time staring at the computer. Just where is the space I go to that feels like me? I'm still thinking.
