It's Fall!

It's really fall.  I sit here writing in a sweatshirt with a blanket over my lap and I know it is fall.  Back when I lived more southern I LOVED fall.  With a passion.  Now I am more ambivalent about it because it means the end of sunshine for days on end.  But this year I chose to be more optimistic and take advantage of really cool days where the sun actually shines beautifully.

This is my first fall as a blogger and I'm discovering that the nesting, cuddling aspects of cooler weather (and football season) somehow aren't motivating me to blog.  I had envisioned happy mornings of writing about my beautiful fall decorations and fall activities.  What I'm DOING is staying in bed late enjoying the fall breeze, working out late, doing a measly bit of cleaning and then it's dinner time.  Not much blogging going on here.  However will I become a fabulously famous blogger if all I do is sit on the couch and watch football?

I actually am doing a few things.  I helped a friend paint her dining room and it is BEAUTIFUL - even without the woodwork being completed.  And I actually sort of decorated my porch, took the pictures and edited them.  I'm not particularly impressed with it so I have put off writing it up.  So I missed all the outdoor decorating parties.  LOSER!

So I made a bargain with myself.  Get this post done, get the mantel decorated and the living room clean  and I can watch all the new fall shows on TV tonight!!!!  It's amazing what the threat of no TV does for this girl!

So here is what I did with my porch.  Fall is good because I get to not feel like I should change out my wreath. I made this wreath with some styrofoam leaves that I bought at one of Carol Garrity's stores in Atchison, Kansas seven or eight years ago.  I made the wreath when we moved into this house and basically every time I take it down I get sad.  It is a little sad - and weird - how attached I am to this wreath!

I kept the red chair from my summer porch.  I've actually had neighbors stop and knock on my door to tell me how much they like this chair!  I bought some fun fabric that looked slightly fallish to make a new pillow for it but when I cleaned the storage guest room, I put it away somewhere and can't find it!  So I used a scrap of coffee sack to cover a pillow.  I like the pillow, but I think it should contrast more with the webbing - so I will keep looking for the other fabric.

This is a good time for me to notify anyone who cares - the webbing that I used for the back of the chair is NOT COLOR-FAST.  The red stitching has faded to about half the original depth.   It has faded both from the sun and from water  blowing onto it from rain and the sprinkler.   If I were doing the rebuilding project again I would treat the webbing somehow to prevent this as much as possible.

I bought pumpkins buy one get one free.....

Stuck some fall colored stuff in a basket - which I bought a LONG time ago and this is the first time I've ever used...

Went back porch and basement shopping for some stuff to put on the table...

That thing in the bottom is a flower/seed sifter.  I stole it during the last hour of an estate sale for five bucks!

A pot of hens and chicks that I've been ignoring all summer...

Looks like I forgot the rug...

Oh well.  My seven dollar porch is done and I'm one step closer to seeing the season premier of Castle!

Make something wonderful today!

The weather is just turning here too, and we don't decorate for autumn in the UK, so I'm really enjoying all of blogland's creativity.
Love the chair Karen, and the faded webbing and grain sack pillow. The whole vignette is very pretty.

I think time away from blog writing is essential to getting thoughts in order. I want to do it myself. Maybe if I had some of that weather I'd be tempted. Well, your decorations are very festive for this season and I so enjoyed seeing what you've done!

Looks great! I'm selfishly glad you painted this weekend and didn't blog. Plus, you'll get to blog about that, right? It does look fab. Plus, you can probably get a whole post from the lint debacle. It could be an ode to the underappreciated razorblade scraper.

Your porch looks great, Karen. You are light years ahead of me. I put my rake out and that's as far as I got. I love that chair as well. Good thing I don't live close. I might run over and "borrow" it for my fall vignette. No one will know the webbing faded. Just keep those cute pillows coming.
