Christmas Tour 2014!!

Welcome to Somewhat Quirky Design!

If you're here on a stop on the Christmas In the Country Blog Tour - you're in the right place and I'm glad you're here.

If you are a regular reader, you may be a little surprised to see me on anything that has to do with a deadline.

You know that it generally takes me about 2 years to do the things I promise myself I will do.

The miracle is that not only did I commit - I did it!

Sort of.

If you're familiar with the home tour business, you might be dreaming of big sweeping pictures of beautifully decorated rooms.

There won't be any of those.

Big sweeping pictures.

Of beautifully decorated rooms.

Because, frankly,

my house is a wreck.

(insert your messiest room image here)

You won't find a traditional Christmas tree.

I've got lots of trees -

just not regular ones.

And I've got columns.

And jingle bells.

And warm lighting.

I've got feather boas.

And centerpieces with live-edge wood slices.

There are lots and lots of pink vintage ornaments.

And pom-pom wreaths.

And well - not to be obvious - pink ornaments in my china cabinet.

And could I just say - there is not a time that I love having a black dining room more than I do at Christmas.

I want to stay in there all the time - at least until I have to go to the ladies room . . .

my second favorite black room.

I did a little decorating in the office this year, since Mr. Quirky works in there about 12 hours a day.

He wasn't thrilled. He said "uh, I don't need a tree in here."  I didn't say anything.

In case you would like to spend the night . . .

I decorated your room too!

People like to spend the night here.

I make good cakes.

And if you come back and visit me this month,

I'm going to share the recipe for this cake!

Please come to the back door.  That's the door my friends come in. And that's where my globe Christmas tree is.

I'll also share my decorated master bedroom . . .

and any other space I couldn't show you because it was filled with rejected Christmas decor and 638 boxes that are located just to the other side in each and every one of these pictures.

I was tempted to show you a picture of what these rooms really looked like, but I was shy. I wasn't sure I was brave enough to show new visitors that I'm not perfect.

Please don't tell them that I am not.

Although, I do find this tree pretty dang close to perfect.

And I do plan to be perfect in 2015.

I've got one month to practice.

Oh, and in the meantime please head over to the mothership of this Christmas blog tour and check out the projects, decor and tours that are gathered together to please you and inspire you. They've been partying since November 28 so there's a LOT to see!

I would be especially happy if you would stop in and see my fellow December 4 tours (that's today!) Susan@Momcrieff and Mandy@NormandyLife

There is also a link party where we would love for you to link up your own inspirational Christmas posts.  New links - like this one - are featured every day.  Just when I think I've seen it all, there IS something new under the sun - and you won't want to miss that!

Thanks again for visiting! Visitors make me happy.

And comments. Comments make me happy too!

Oh my goodness! It looks perfectly Christmassy to me! I found tons of great ideas here. I LOVE your glass globe tree and I am intrigued by that cool, curvy, starry night picture in the background of one of the pictures. What is it??

Anyone who follows you would be nuts to think we would find anything other than a quirky house.

I love it all and might just take you up on that guest room one day.

Oh My Goodness, Karen! Where to begin? You have so many beautiful decorations (I, too, have a great fondness for Pink or Rose Mercury glass ornaments) I definitely want to come stay in your spare room, so cute and could I visit your husband's office with a piece of that cake? What an incredible gift you have! Thank you for opening your home!

I loved the tour! Thanks so much for sharing. I had to scroll back through all the pix after reading the "Starry Night" post--since that's my fave of all time! I found it! Looks like "Starry Christmas Night." Did you paint it?

Oh my goodness! This doesn't look anything like #15 on that last post where you tried to say your world was a wreck. And there's that cake from #7 again - you temptress you!
Kathy, I love your quirkiness, your style and how you've styled & decorated your home. I am so glad I found your blog, it's always entertaining. Thanks!

It all looks great. I don't think you celebrate the "quirky" part of Somewhat Quirky, near enough.

It looks amazing! I love your white pitchers. Thanks for all of the great ideas. Also, perfect is boring. There's nothing fun about it! Quirky and imperfect is awesome.
